A Toronto man falsely claimed a $1M Lotto Max prize alone, though the ticket was part of a group play.
A 70-year-old Toronto man, Alex Parucha, has been charged with theft, fraud, and possession of property obtained by crime after allegedly claiming a $1-million Lotto Max prize as a solo winner, despite evidence the ticket was part of a group play involving three people.
Ontario Provincial Police, supported by the OLG and AGCO, launched an investigation in September after forensic review revealed the win should have been shared.
Parucha was arrested on November 19, released, and is set to appear in court on January 8.
Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information.
The identities of the other group members remain undisclosed.
