On November 25, 2025, Telangana approved merging 27 urban local bodies into the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation, expanding the city’s area to 1,800–2,000 sq km.
The move, part of a broader effort to unify urban planning and improve services, includes amendments to municipal laws and the creation of a new state power distribution company to manage electricity for agriculture, irrigation, and water projects.
The government also plans 5,000 MW of renewable energy capacity, including solar and pumped storage, and will implement an underground utility system in Hyderabad.
New industrial power rules and infrastructure projects, including a residential school and advanced technology centers, were also approved.
