A South African man was sentenced to life for raping four victims, with DNA linking him to cold cases.
A 27-year-old man from South Africa’s Western Cape, Sihle Makaula, was sentenced to four life terms plus 63 years for a series of rapes between 2019 and 2020, linked through DNA evidence.
The crimes, involving three women and a 17-year-old girl in Grabouw, included knife threats, robbery, and forced access to bank PINs.
Makaula was already serving a 15-year sentence for a separate rape when his DNA matched evidence from unsolved cases via the National Prosecuting Authority’s DNA Project.
The case underscores how forensic technology helps solve cold cases and hold serial offenders accountable.
