Plans for a mini-roundabout at Abingdon’s Fairacres Retail Park junction have been withdrawn, though a revised application may follow. The project was tied to Marks & Spencer’s approved foodhall, set to open in the former Homebase space, part of the retailer’s renewal programme. While no accidents have been recorded at the junction, surveys showed significant peak-hour delays with around 500 vehicles per direction on weekends. Local officials welcomed the foodhall, but some residents and business owners opposed the roundabout, fearing it could worsen congestion. Alternative traffic solutions were suggested. M&S and the county council have not commented on the roundabout’s withdrawal, and no opening date for the foodhall has been set.
