Owners of a heritage-listed Keira Street site in Wollongong, formerly home to the Rookie restaurant, have applied to build a southern outdoor dining deck with four tables, a wheelchair lift, and a large planter to reduce visibility from the street. The project, part of a two-stage upgrade, seeks to improve functionality and accessibility while preserving the site’s historical character. The application requests a setback variance, arguing the current layout aligns with local development patterns and avoids demolition. Public exhibition runs until December 3, 2025.
