Oklahoma sheriffs indicted over alleged assault and witness intimidation in July incident.
Coal County Sheriff Jason Smith and Undersheriff Jesse Yother in Oklahoma have been indicted on multiple charges following a July incident.
Smith faces misdemeanor charges of assault and battery and domestic assault and battery, while Yother is charged with felony intimidation of a witness and misdemeanor obstruction of an officer.
Allegations include Smith shoving his wife and striking another man, and Yother threatening a deputy to alter her testimony.
A grand jury recommended Smith’s suspension, and Oklahoma’s attorney general condemned the conduct as incompatible with public trust.
Both men deny the allegations, and the case is under investigation by the OSBI.
