Keonte Gathron, 25, has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for the 2019 fatal beating of 88-year-old Yik Oi Huang, a grandmother in San Francisco’s Visitacion Valley neighborhood.
Judge Eric Fleming delayed the final sentencing for a presentence report.
Gathron, who represented himself and denied guilt, was convicted on multiple charges including murder, carjacking, robbery, elder abuse, and child endangerment.
Authorities said he targeted victims of Asian descent or those with limited English proficiency during a two-week crime spree.
Huang, who died in January 2020 after being severely beaten and her home burglarized, was remembered by her family as a hardworking immigrant from China.
The park where she was attacked was renamed in her honor.
Gathron plans to appeal.
