Jordan Patten, 21, has pleaded not guilty to attempting a terrorist act, possessing violent extremist material, and carrying weapons with intent to cause harm after allegedly planning to attack Newcastle MP Tim Crakanthorp in June 2024.
He was arrested at Honeysuckle after being turned away from the Newcastle Museum for carrying knives and a hammer, having previously armed himself at the Civic Theatre and livestreamed his actions.
Prosecutors dropped the most serious charge, but he faces trial in NSW Supreme Court in February.
Authorities allege he wrote a 200-page manifesto inspired by the Christchurch shooter, containing threats to behead a Labor politician, with evidence including extremist material found on a data storage device.
The case is being prosecuted under a Commonwealth exemption.
