Ireland confirms bird flu in 30,000-turkey flock, losing disease-free status; no human cases.
A bird flu outbreak has been confirmed in a 30,000-turkey flock in County Laois, Ireland, marking the fourth such case this month.
Restriction zones and mandatory housing orders for poultry and captive birds are in place across several counties, following earlier outbreaks in Carlow, Meath, and Monaghan, and an outbreak at Fota Wildlife Park, which has closed until month’s end.
Control measures include surveillance, biosecurity, and movement restrictions.
The outbreaks have led Ireland to lose its World Organisation for Animal Health disease-free status for HPAI, the first time since November 2022.
No human cases have been reported.
