FIFA suspended two of Ronaldo's three-game ban, allowing him to play in Portugal’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Cristiano Ronaldo will play in Portugal’s opening 2026 World Cup matches after FIFA suspended two of a three-match ban for his red card in a November 13 qualifier against Ireland.
The 40-year-old received the red card for elbowing defender Dara O’Shea, marking his first in 226 international appearances.
He already served one game of the ban in Portugal’s 9-1 win over Armenia.
The remaining two games are deferred for one year; if Ronaldo commits another similar offense during that time, the suspensions will be enforced immediately.
The decision, which allows him to participate in his sixth World Cup, is subject to appeal.
