Chicago worker arrested for threatening senator via email after immigration remarks.
Joseph Haggerty, a 59-year-old Chicago city employee, was arrested on November 25, 2025, on two felony counts of threatening Illinois State Senator Andrew Chesney after sending offensive emails from his personal Gmail account.
The threats, sent on September 2, followed a press conference where Chesney discussed immigration and National Guard deployment.
Haggerty admitted to anger over politics during a police interview but said he didn’t intend harm.
He turned himself in in Cook County and remains in custody in Stephenson County.
Authorities confirmed the arrest, and Chesney praised the swift response, calling for accountability.
