Australia flagged Nauru's ex-president and wife over $1M in suspicious transfers; government faces scrutiny over undisclosed $2.5B deal.
An Australian intelligence report from 2023 flagged former Nauruan President David Adeang and his wife Ingrid Aingimea over suspicious financial activity in 2020, including large, rapid fund transfers linked to a company tied to Aingimea.
The report noted over $113,000 in Osko payments to Adeang, $68,000 in ATM withdrawals, and more than $830,000 in government funds transferred to Aingimea, with $462,000 sent to her husband.
AUSTRAC shared the findings with Australian law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
Critics accuse the Albanese government of secrecy, alleging it entered a $2.5 billion undisclosed agreement with Nauru despite knowing of the financial concerns, and continues to withhold details of the deal and funding.
