University of Ghana denies altering statutes to support LGBT+ rights, calling claims false and defamatory.
The University of Ghana has rejected claims it altered its statutes to support LGBT+ activities, calling the allegations false and defamatory.
It clarified that 2024 updates only replaced gender-specific pronouns with gender-neutral terms to improve clarity and align with modern English usage, not to change policies or endorse LGBT+ activities.
The changes comply with Ghanaian law and standard governance procedures, the university said, and no individual, including the vice-chancellor, can unilaterally amend statutes.
It demanded a retraction and public apology from private lawyer Moses Foh-Amoaning, who made the claims, warning of legal action if ignored, and urged media to verify information through official channels to prevent misinformation.
