Telangana launched India’s first single-use bioprocess facility to boost biotech innovation, cutting costs and attracting investment.
Telangana has launched India’s first single-use bioprocess design and scale-up facility, 1 Bio, in Hyderabad’s Genome Valley, advancing the nation’s biopharmaceutical capabilities.
Developed with support from the state government, Department of Biotechnology, and Thermo Fisher Scientific, the 2-acre campus includes 150,000 sq.
ft. of R&D labs, bioreactors up to 500 liters, and advanced processing systems.
The facility, part of a Rs 200 crore infrastructure upgrade, aims to cut development costs and time for biotech firms, attract Rs 500 crore in private investment, and create over 500 jobs.
Its opening coincided with Genome Valley’s 25th anniversary, marked by a new logo and plans for a gateway structure.
Thermo Fisher also opened a Bioprocess Design Centre and Customer Experience Centre, supporting research in cell and gene therapy, mRNA, and oncology, with a combined investment of Rs 85–90 crore.
