A 6-mile stretch of North Dakota’s Theodore Roosevelt National Park road reopens after $51 million in repairs, restoring access to key viewpoints.
A 6-mile section of the scenic loop road in North Dakota’s Theodore Roosevelt National Park is reopening after more than six years, following a $51 million reconstruction project completed in October 2025.
The work, largely funded by the Great American Outdoors Act, repaired damage from storms, erosion, and aging infrastructure, including a 2019 collapse of a 150-foot stretch.
The rebuilt road features improved drainage, slope stabilization, and durable materials blending with the Badlands terrain, restoring access to key viewpoints like Scoria Point and Badlands Overlook.
The reopening coincides with the July 4 grand opening of the nearby Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, expected to boost tourism in the park, which draws over 700,000 visitors annually.
