India targets Indo-Pacific ship repair leadership, boosting shipbuilding and green tech with South Korea.

India aims to become the preferred ship repair and sustainment hub in the Indo-Pacific, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh citing growing international trust in Indian shipyards for complex refits. Speaking at the Samudra Utkarsh Seminar 2025, he highlighted advancements in indigenous shipbuilding, including the INS Vikrant aircraft carrier, and emphasized India’s maritime heritage and technological progress. The government plans to expand its commercial fleet to 2,500 vessels by 2047, investing $24 billion and partnering with South Korea for green tech, automation, and quality standards, with HD Hyundai and Cochin Shipyard Ltd. launching the first major collaboration.
