China’s cord blood banks expand research and access to treat 80+ diseases with high success rates.
China’s seven provincial cord blood banks have launched a joint initiative to expand research and clinical use of cord blood, focusing on public awareness, improved collection and processing, and high-quality cryopreservation.
With over 2.45 million units stored and more than 45,000 released for medical use, cord blood is now used to treat nearly 80 conditions, including leukemia and genetic disorders, with engraftment rates exceeding 97%.
The plan aims to strengthen collaboration, enhance access to transplants, and improve patient outcomes, particularly for those without matched donors.
