U.S. senators demand FTC and SEC investigate Meta over $16B in scam ad revenue and alleged lax fraud enforcement.
U.S.
Senators Josh Hawley and Richard Blumenthal have called on the FTC and SEC to investigate Meta over its advertising practices, citing a Reuters report that found Meta earned $16 billion in 2024—about 10% of its revenue—from ads promoting scams and banned goods, including fake government offers, crypto fraud, and AI-generated deepfake content.
The senators allege Meta’s anti-fraud policies were inconsistently enforced, contributing to an estimated $50 billion in consumer losses, a third of all U.S. scam-related fraud last year.
They criticized Meta’s reduction in safety staff and focus on AI investments, while Meta denied the claims, stating scam reports dropped 58% in 18 months and asserting it actively combats fraud.
Los senadores estadounidenses exigen que la FTC y la SEC investiguen a Meta por más de $ 16B en ingresos por publicidad fraudulenta y presunta aplicación laxa del fraude.
