Singaporean man, paroled after child porn conviction, detained in U.S. for deportation to Singapore.
Singaporean Amos Yee, 27, is in U.S. immigration custody at the Dodge Detention Facility in Wisconsin, detained just days after being paroled from a six-year prison sentence in Illinois for child pornography and online grooming of a 14-year-old. He was convicted in 2021 after exchanging explicit messages and photos with the victim via WhatsApp. Yee, who was granted U.S. asylum in 2017 despite DHS opposition, had previously been jailed in Singapore for religiously charged remarks. ICE has served him with deportation orders, citing public safety and flight risks, and is pursuing his removal to Singapore, where he faces potential charges for failing to report for military service and leaving without a valid exit permit. His immigration court date has not yet been scheduled.
