New Zealand invests $2.7M to expand Farmstrong, a program reducing farm injuries and boosting mental health since 2016.
New Zealand has renewed its investment in the Farmstrong rural wellbeing programme with $2.7 million, launching a five-year, $6.8 million initiative to reduce agricultural and horticultural injuries by improving mental wellbeing.
The programme, active since 2016, has saved $52 million in claims costs and prevented over 9,800 injuries, returning $7.85 for every dollar spent.
In 2024, farming injuries totaled over 17,000 claims, costing $120 million.
The government calls the effort vital to supporting the nation’s economic backbone.
