A free tool called Provo, developed by Singapore’s CATOS and set to launch in 2026, will let users verify digital content authenticity by checking embedded metadata like origin, creation date, and editing history via a browser extension.
Created with Adobe and backed by $50 million in funding, Provo uses digital “provenance labels” to track content changes and detect tampering, aiming to combat deepfakes and misinformation.
It complements Sleuth, a deepfake detection platform already used by some public agencies, which identifies manipulations through pixel-level analysis.
CATOS is also exploring secure identity verification, possibly using Singpass, to strengthen trust, though public rollout of some tools faces challenges related to accuracy and scalability.
