Moline High School is removing bathroom doors to monitor students and reduce vaping, as new laws limit school punishments.
Moline High School is removing bathroom doors to help combat vaping, a growing public health concern, as staff can more easily monitor students from the hallway.
The district says doors have been inconsistently removed for years, and while privacy remains protected with hidden stalls and temporary dividers, a two-year renovation means doors likely won’t return soon.
The move comes as Illinois law no longer allows school officers to ticket students for vaping, and suspensions are rare.
The policy is currently limited to the high school, and the district welcomes community feedback.
