Ken Bruce says his departure caused Radio 2’s morning audience to drop from 8.1M to 6.6M, but his new show has doubled in size.
Ken Bruce, who hosted BBC Radio 2’s mid-morning show for over 30 years until 2023, acknowledged a drop in the station’s weekday morning audience from 8.1 million to 6.6 million after Vernon Kay took over, attributing the shift to the change in on-air personality and listener loyalty.
Bruce, now at Greatest Hits Radio, said his new show has doubled in audience, crediting his team and the Pop Master quiz.
He emphasized his move was personal, driven by a desire for change, and denied any forced exit.
While he no longer listens to Kay’s show, he expressed respect for the new host.
The BBC maintains Radio 2 remains the UK’s most-listened-to station, with 12.8 million weekly listeners, and reports that audience figures have stabilized post-relaunch.
Ken Bruce dice que su salida hizo que la audiencia matutina de Radio 2 cayera de 8,1 millones a 6,6 millones, pero su nuevo programa se ha duplicado en tamaño.
