Hawks and hospital official arrested in bribe attempt linked to R2-billion scandal.
A Hawks officer and a Tembisa Hospital official were arrested on 23 November 2025 for allegedly offering R100,000 in bribes to obstruct an investigation into a R2-billion procurement scandal at the hospital.
The arrest followed a sting operation authorized by the Director of Public Prosecutions, with the suspects caught attempting to pay the bribe during a meeting involving an investigating officer and a complainant.
The probe stems from allegations first raised by slain former health official Babita Deokaran and involves fraud, collusion, and money laundering.
Both suspects are expected to appear in Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on 24 November.
