The Great Ethiopian Run in Addis Ababa on November 23, 2025, celebrated its 25th anniversary with a record 55,000 participants, becoming Africa’s largest road race.
The 10-kilometer event drew runners from 24 countries, with Ethiopian athletes Yismaw Dillu and Melknat Wudu winning the men’s and women’s races in 28:25 and 32:10, respectively.
Race founder Haile Gebrselassie highlighted the event’s growth and recent World Athletics heritage status, expressing hope for Ethiopia to host elite competitions like the Diamond League.
