Genesis Energy has approved a $236 million solar project in Edgecumbe, Bay of Plenty, to generate 238 gigawatt-hours annually, powering about 29,800 homes starting in late 2027.
The Edgecumbe Solar Farm, part of Genesis’s Gen35 strategy, will boost renewable supply and reduce gas reliance, especially in summer.
Construction begins soon, with Horizon Networks handling grid connections and Metlen managing development.
Initially funded by Genesis, the company may use joint ventures or power purchase agreements later for capital recycling, maintaining its BBB+ credit rating.
This follows the earlier approval of a solar farm at Rangiriri near Huntly, set for completion in mid-2026.
