Brant County SPCA waives fees for seniors and veterans adopting older cats to fight loneliness and support mental health.
The Brant County SPCA is waiving adoption fees for seniors and veterans through its “Seniors for Seniors” program, launched in 2019, to help place older cats—typically eight years and older—into homes.
The initiative aims to combat loneliness and support mental well-being, particularly for seniors and veterans dealing with PTSD, by pairing them with calm, low-energy cats.
Thirty-three senior cats have been adopted through the program, and while none are currently available, the shelter remains ready to match new arrivals with eligible adopters.
The effort removes financial barriers and strengthens human-animal bonds.
