On November 22, 2025, suspected Boko Haram or ISWAP fighters abducted 13 female farmers, aged 15 to 20, from Mussa District in Borno State while they harvested crops, prompting a joint search-and-rescue operation.
One girl escaped and was rescued, while 12 remain missing.
The incident occurred in a region already affected by conflict, with victims having relocated from the insecure Huyim area.
Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume and Borno State officials called for intensified security efforts and public cooperation.
Separately, Nigerian Army troops in Taraba State arrested Umar Musa Geyi, a suspected key figure in a kidnapping network, linked to the abduction of Alhaji Jano, who remains captive.
Authorities intercepted a call in which Geyi confirmed the victim’s detention and demanded a ₦20 million ransom.
He is now in custody, undergoing interrogation to locate the missing man and dismantle the syndicate.
