Two NSW graduates landed VFX jobs in Ballina through a government training program, avoiding city moves.
Two Newcastle men, Lewis Sayers and Josh Ingold, have secured full-time roles as junior 2D compositors at FIN Design + Effects in Ballina, marking a shift in the visual effects industry by creating regional career paths.
Both, originally from Newcastle and Muswellbrook, completed screen and media diplomas at TAFE NSW and were selected from five graduates of the government-funded Visual Effects Accelerator course, a collaboration between FIN VFX and TAFE NSW.
The eight-week program, designed to bridge skills gaps, enabled them to land jobs without relocating to major cities like Sydney or Melbourne.
Now working alongside a 30-person team in Ballina, they credit the training and mentorship for transforming their careers from administrative and support roles into creative industry positions.
The course is set to run again next year, though its future depends on continued government funding.
