New Zealand landlord Darren Williams ordered to pay $5,000 for racist remarks, harassment, and property damage to Auckland tenants.
New Zealand landlord Darren Williams has been ordered by the Tenancy Tribunal to pay $5,000 in compensation to tenants at two Auckland properties after being found guilty of racist remarks, harassment, and breaches of quiet enjoyment.
The tribunal ruled Williams made racially charged comments, including telling tenants to “go to Mumbai,” entered properties without notice, stole personal items, and destroyed belongings, including a $4,000 computer.
Despite acknowledging Williams’ mental health struggles, the tribunal stated they did not excuse his actions.
He was ordered to pay $500 for stolen items and $3,500 in exemplary and property damages.
This follows a 2020 ruling against him for similar misconduct.
