Mahavatar Narsimha, an Indian animated film directed by Ashwin Kumar and produced by Hombale Films, has been shortlisted for the Best Animated Feature category at the 2026 Academy Awards, making it the first Indian animated feature to reach the final 35 contenders.
Based on the Hindu myth of Prahlada and Lord Narasimha, the film earned over ₹300 crore worldwide on a ₹40 crore budget, with a global release starting July 31 and a Netflix debut after a 50-day theatrical run.
It is the first in Hombale’s Mahavatar Cinematic Universe, with future films including Mahavatar Parashuram (2027).
The Oscars nominations will be announced January 22, 2026.
