A John Entwistle-owned 1986 bass, linked to Queen’s John Deacon via wood analysis, is set for auction, confirmed used in Queen’s 1986 Montreux performance.
A 1986 Warwick Buzzard bass guitar once owned by The Who’s John Entwistle has been linked to Queen’s John Deacon through wood grain analysis, confirming its use in Queen’s 1986 Montreux Pop Festival performance and music video for “Friends Will Be Friends.” The discovery, based on a fingerprint-like match with archival footage, has raised its auction estimate from £10,000 to £20,000–£40,000.
Previously sold in 2003 for £3,500 without knowledge of the Queen connection, the instrument is now believed to be one of a few prototypes designed with Entwistle.
It will be auctioned on December 2 by Gardiner Houlgate in Wiltshire, drawing strong interest due to its rare ties to two iconic British rock bands.
