Garry George Johnson, known as Jellybean Johnson, a founding member of Prince’s band The Time and a key architect of the Minneapolis Sound, has died at 69.
The drummer and guitarist, who played on hits like “777-9311” and appeared in "Purple Rain", collaborated with artists including Janet Jackson, Patti LaBelle, and Rihanna, and co-produced Jackson’s “Black Cat.” He also co-founded the Minneapolis Sound Museum and mentored emerging musicians.
