Indologist Lalit Mishra claims to have rediscovered Ayodhya’s ancient flag, featuring Om, the Sun, and the Kovidara tree, based on the Mewar Ramayana and Valmiki Ramayana’s Ayodhya Kand.
The Kovidara, a mythical hybrid tree, symbolizes early plant hybridization and was lost after Ayodhya’s abandonment post-Mahabharata.
With help from Banaras Hindu University botanists, Mishra distinguished it from the Kachnar tree.
The flag will be hoisted on November 25 at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple, marking the main temple’s completion, with PM Modi and RSS chief Bhagwat attending.
Six additional shrines will also be inaugurated.
Mishra advocates genetic study to validate the tree’s existence and sees the find as evidence of ancient Indian innovation in governance.
