George Stephenson, convicted in the 1986 mass murder at Burgate House in Hampshire, has died in prison at age 73.
He passed away on April 20 at HMP Full Sutton from heart failure and ischaemic heart disease, according to the Prisons Ombudsman.
Stephenson was sentenced to life in prison for the robbery-related killings of four people, including the Cleaver family and nurse Maggie Murphy, who were bound, doused in petrol, and burned.
His accomplice killed Tom Cleaver’s wife, Wendy.
Melissa Cleaver, daughter of one victim, said she feels a mix of numbness and relief.
The case remains one of Britain’s most notorious crimes.
