ECOWAS sent 80 observers to Guinea-Bissau to monitor its 23 November 2025 elections amid political disputes.
ECOWAS has deployed an 80-member election observation mission to Guinea-Bissau, led by Ghana’s Ambassador Baba Kamara, ahead of the 23 November 2025 general elections.
The mission, active from 19 to 26 November, includes experts from electoral bodies, civil society, media, and regional institutions.
Kamara, a seasoned diplomat and ECOWAS Special Envoy for Counterterrorism, brings extensive experience in election monitoring across West Africa.
The team conducted consultations with national authorities, the National Election Commission, political actors, and international observers to ensure a transparent and credible process amid political disputes over presidential term limits and past instability.
The mission underscores ECOWAS’s commitment to democratic governance and peace in the region.
