Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on November 22, 2025, that Bengali-speaking Muslims, known as "Miyas," have gained political strength through collective voting, urging other communities to unify their support.
He called for sustained pressure on illegal settlers in Lower Assam and the western Brahmaputra Valley, predicting their eventual departure within 10 to 15 years.
Sarma criticized the Congress for failing to resolve land rights for long-term residents, including those on forest and government land, arguing earlier land patta could have prevented current eviction efforts.
He also addressed the complexity of forming alliances ahead of the upcoming assembly elections, citing ongoing discussions with the Asom Gana Parishad, United People’s Party Liberal, and Bodoland People’s Front.
