A 20-year-old man was fined $700 for fleeing police on a helmetless moped in Kelso, August 26, 2025.

A 20-year-old Bathurst man, Norbu Gyatso, was fined $700 after pleading guilty to riding a moped without a helmet and fleeing police in Kelso on August 26, 2025. Police spotted him and a passenger, both wearing black and a balaclava, on a light grey moped without helmets. Gyatso fled through alleyways and footpaths, abandoned the moped by a creek, and fled on foot before being arrested. He initially denied involvement, but his solicitor said he and friends had found the moped and rode it briefly. Magistrate Gemma Slack-Smith criticized the reckless behavior as unsafe, and Gyatso was convicted of negligent driving and fined on October 8, 2025.
