Texas AG Ken Paxton seeks to seal divorce records amid public interest in his finances and ethics history.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is seeking to keep his divorce records sealed, arguing that public access would intrude on his and his wife Angela Paxton’s private lives.
She filed for divorce in July, citing adultery and "biblical grounds," and initially requested the case be sealed.
The request drew opposition from eight media organizations and the Campaign for Accountability, which argue the public has a right to know about financial disclosures and property claims of a public official, especially amid past ethics controversies, including Paxton’s 2023 impeachment.
A new judge, Lyndsey Wynne, will decide whether to unseal the documents, with a hearing set for December 19.
Paxton, who is not seeking reelection, is running in the Republican Senate primary against John Cornyn and Wesley Hunt.
