Recreational use advisory lifted for Ischua Creek after water quality improved post-wastewater spill.
State officials have lifted a recreational use advisory for Ischua Creek in Cattaraugus County after determining water quality has improved following a wastewater discharge from the Great Lakes Cheese facility in Franklinville.
The August 26 incident, which caused a fish kill over 10 miles of the creek, was traced to organic waste from the facility’s treatment plant.
After corrective actions were taken and monitoring confirmed safe conditions, fishing, boating, and swimming are now permitted.
Officials continue to monitor the creek and urge the public to report any concerns.
