Philadelphia Art Museum hires former Met CEO Daniel Weiss as new director amid leadership turmoil and ongoing legal disputes.
The Philadelphia Art Museum has named Daniel H. Weiss, former CEO of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, as its new director and CEO, effective December 1, following the November 2025 dismissal of Sasha Suda, who is suing the museum over her termination.
The museum alleges Suda improperly increased her salary by $39,000 without board approval and lied during an internal investigation.
Suda claims she was fired for pushing reforms and opposing a corrupt board faction.
Meanwhile, a former museum executive was charged with stealing nearly $59,000 using a corporate credit card, adding to the institution’s recent turmoil.
Weiss, who has extensive leadership experience, will lead the museum through a period of transition and growth.
