Claim rates rise sharply with higher entitlements, reaching 86% for those eligible for over £150 weekly but only 30% for those under £5 weekly. Scotland leads in uptake at 67%, followed by Wales at 64% and England at 63%. A tipping point at £15 weekly sees more eligible households claiming than not. Experts cite low awareness, complex applications, and lack of automatic enrollment as key barriers, especially for pensioners with modest savings or homeowners. The government urges eligible individuals to check their status and apply for benefits that include help with housing, council tax, heating, and free TV licenses.
