A Minnesota man, Mikhail Robin Wicker, 39, was convicted on November 21, 2025, of fraudulently obtaining nearly $150,000 in veteran benefits by falsely claiming to be a decorated Marine Corps veteran who served in Iraq, was captured, and tortured. Prosecutors said he fabricated military service from 2004 to 2006 with Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 25th Marine Regiment, and forged documents including a fake discharge certificate and medal awards. Federal records, employment data, and a 2005 Michigan car crash report contradicted his claims, showing he was not deployed and had a criminal history that barred military service. He faces sentencing at a later date.
