U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detained a 17-year-old U.S. citizen, McMinnville High School senior Christian Jimenez, on Friday, November 21, 2025, during a lunch break off school grounds while he was in a vehicle.
Witnesses saw the arrest, and a video shows the teen asserting his citizenship as officers broke the car window and ordered him out.
He was taken to an ICE facility in South Portland and released by 7 p.m. that day.
The McMinnville School District confirmed the incident, stating it does not share student information with immigration authorities without a court order and is providing support for affected students’ emotional well-being.
ICE did not immediately explain its actions.
The district emphasized no agents entered school property, and officials are coordinating with local partners.
