Hackney’s Broadway Market has been named the UK’s sixth-best shopping street for independent retailers in a survey by American Express and Global Data, recognizing its vibrant atmosphere, 125 stalls, and community-driven revival.
Located between Regent’s Canal and London Fields, it operates Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., offering food, crafts, vintage clothing, and handmade goods.
Originally a 19th-century fruit and vegetable market, it was saved from closure in the 1980s through community efforts in 2004 and has since become a cultural hub, possibly inspiring Albert Square in EastEnders.
The honor supports Small Business Saturday on December 6, highlighting Gen Z’s growing preference for local, authentic shopping experiences and vintage goods.
