Four-time Bathurst winner Allan Moffat, 86, dies after battling Alzheimer’s, remembered as a motorsport pioneer.
Allan Moffat, a four-time Bathurst 1000 winner and influential Australian motorsport icon, has died at 86 after a prolonged battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in Canada, he became a national racing figure in the 1970s and 1980s, winning four Australian Touring Car Championships and multiple Bathurst and Sandown races.
Known for his rivalry and respect with Peter Brock, Moffat helped modernize racing through innovations in sponsorship and team operations.
He was inducted into the Supercars and Sport Australia Halls of Fame and honored with an OBE.
Diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2019, he advocated for dementia awareness through the Allan Moffat Foundation.
Supercars Australia will honor his legacy at the Adelaide Grand Final.
