A Florida deputy was killed and three others injured during a routine eviction where the man being evicted opened fire.

A Florida sheriff’s deputy, Terri Mashkow, 47, was killed and three others injured Friday during a routine eviction in Vero Beach’s Bermuda Club neighborhood. Deputy Mashkow, a 25-year veteran, died after Michael Halberstam, the man being evicted, opened fire on officers and a locksmith. Halberstam, a former UPS employee with a criminal history, was shot multiple times and remains in critical condition. The locksmith is also in critical condition following surgery, while another deputy sustained a shoulder wound and is recovering. Authorities confirmed no legal barriers prevented Halberstam from owning a firearm and are investigating his motive, including social media posts critical of law enforcement. The incident occurred during a lawful eviction requested by Halberstam’s mother, and no prior warnings of violence were known.
