The court upheld the central government's extension of Prabodh Saxena’s tenure as Chief Secretary, citing administrative needs and proper procedure.
The Himachal Pradesh High Court dismissed a petition challenging the six-month extension of former Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena, ruling the central government had the authority to extend his tenure under service rules.
The extension, ending September 30, 2025, was granted based on state administrative needs and a recommendation from the Chief Minister.
Saxena, a 1990-batch IAS officer, was later appointed Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board for three years.
The court found no basis for judicial intervention, noting the Centre had considered the case background and state interests.
The decision upholds the government’s discretion in such appointments.
