Nigeria launches engineering competition to boost industry-ready graduates.
The Nigerian Engineering Olympiad (NEO), launched in Abuja on November 20, 2025, is a ten-month initiative by the NCDMB and NSE to bridge the gap between engineering education and industry needs.
Aimed at transforming academic ideas into market-ready solutions, the program targets the 5% of graduates deemed industry-ready, according to a 2023 survey.
It includes regional competitions, mentorship, prototype bootcamps, and a national finale in April 2026, with winners receiving seed funding and support for commercialization.
The Olympiad focuses on innovation in energy, infrastructure, manufacturing, and sustainability, backed by industry partners and designed to reduce reliance on foreign expertise and combat brain drain.
