A 32-year-old man from New Zealand’s Kāpiti Coast was sentenced to nine years and five months in prison on 20 November 2025 for importing, distributing, and possessing over 31,000 extreme child sexual abuse images and videos, including content involving infants and pre-pubescent children.
He was arrested in February 2023 after refusing to provide Customs investigators access to five electronic devices during a search, which later revealed the material, some shared internationally via peer-to-peer networks and private messaging apps.
Forensic analysis found the content totaled 78 days of footage.
The man, already on the child sex offender register, will remain registered.
Authorities stressed the lasting trauma caused by such material and urged the public to report suspected exploitation.
